5-Year-Old Girl Died, 4 Others Seriously Injured In Anambra Auto Crash (Photos)

A five-year-old girl whose identity has not been revealed has been confirmed dead while four others were seriously injured in an auto crash that occurred in the Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State on Wednesday morning.

The police spokesperson said that preliminary information revealed that the accident occurred along Onitsha-Enugu Old Road by Oye Agu Junction Abagana, when a Toyota Sienna vehicle carrying passengers en route to Lagos, had a brake failure and rammed into traders selling by the roadside at Oye Agu Junction.

Reacting to the accident, Ikenga said the state police commissioner, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, cautioned drivers/transporters to always do the necessary checks on their vehicle before driving.

Details of the crash are still not available, but sources said wares were damaged and many people may have also lost their lives.

A video of the incident which is currently on social media, showed the crashed Sienna vehicle and some of the traders who were believed to have been crushed to death.

The market usually has traders selling food items by the roadside.

The Trending video also shows damaged tomatoes and other food items.

President-General of Abagana community, Engr. Ben Okongwu confirmed the incident, saying at least three people lost their lives.

Ikenga said, “The CP while condoling with the family of the deceased directs the arrest and interrogation of the driver.

He said the crash was as a result of loss of control by the driver.

Spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Command, RC Margaret Onabe said she was not aware of the incident.

“To this end, the vehicle has been recovered at the station as the investigation is ongoing.”
