Eminem – My Mom
As the song’s title suggests, “My Mom” joins a lengthy history of songs that demonstrate Em’s contempt for Debbie Mathers, his mother. In the song, Em goes into detail on how his mother’s bullying and manipulating him into taking pills as a child led to his drug addiction. Debbie had plenty of time to prepare for the scathing charges because Em had forewarned her ten years previously on “My Name Is.”
I told her I’d become a well-known rapper when I grew up.
Make a song about drug use and call it her song.
The Eminem Show’s “Cleanin’ Out My Closet” has Em talking about how his mother’s drug addiction badly impacted him as a child. That’s why I’m on what I’m on because I’m my mom, he says in the chorus of “My Mom.” He has now adopted his mother’s habits, and a subsequent song on Relapse, “Déjà Vu,” elaborates on how his habits influence his own children.
