Revival, Em’s ninth studio album, features “Revival (Interlude)” as its eighth song. It is the only track on the album without any vocals by Eminem and is the second-shortest song at 51 seconds, “Remind Me (Intro)” being the shortest at 26 seconds.

Alicia Lemke, an alternative pop singer/songwriter better known by her stage name Alice and the Glass Lake, provided the tasteful vocals for the track. She sadly passed away in 2015 as a result of leukemia.

Even though it is an interlude and doesn’t have any vocals from Em at all, “Revival (Interlude)” can be considered the “title track” of the album. It’s also important to note that Alicia Lemke’s remembrance inspired the album’s name, “Revival”.

The song “The Monster” was recorded in 2013 during the “The Marshall Mathers LP 2” recording sessions, according to producers Frequency & Aalias who also produced (Frequency) and co-produced (Aalias), according to an interview with them. This was two years before Alice’s passing. The instrumental was made with Regina Spektor’s “Human the Year” in mind, which was initially designed with Eminem’s rapping over it. Although they received encouraging comments and were instructed to hold the record and not pass the beat, it wasn’t until six months before the release of “Revival” that it appeared on MMLP2 or Shady XV. After being asked to deliver the beat’s stems, several months pass without a response before “Revival” adverts start to appear.
