Billy Joel composed and sang the song “Say Goodbye to Hollywood,” which was originally made available in 1976 as the lead single from his album Turnstiles. It was first released as the B-side to “I’ve Loved These Days” in the United States before being re-issued a month later as an A-side single with “Stop in Nevada” as the B-side.[1] But in 1981, when a live version from Songs in the Attic was issued as a single with the live version of “Summer, Highland Falls” as the B-side, the song received more attention. Joel composed the song in 1975 after returning to New York City; in 1972, he had moved to Los Angeles in an effort to elude an onerous record agreement. The man with the sunglasses and the bag on the Turnstiles record is the personification of this song.
