Fela Kuti – Confusion pt.1
The opening half of Confusion, a single Afrobeat tune, is entirely instrumental and features Kuti’s electric piano and drummer Tony Allen interacting freely. Kuti then plays call-and-response vocal passages until a lengthy midtempo period with Allen’s polyrhythms and tenor saxophone follows. Music critics have complimented the album in reviews since its release by EMI, citing it as an example of Kuti’s Afrobeat sound and recommending it as a standout from his long discography. Confusion was re-released and included with Kuti’s 1973 Gentleman album in 2000 and 2010.
