“Sorrow, Tears and Blood” is a fantastic soundtrack by Fela Kuti about his horrific brush with the Nigerian armed forces.
Legendary singer, performer and entertainer, Fela Kuti describes his pain with the armed military personnel on this single dubbed “Sorrow, Tears and Blood”. On February 18, 1977, forces sent by the government raid his residence in Kalakuta Republic murdering people and damaging properties.
This song “Sorrow, Tears and Blood” depicts the agony Fela Anikulapo Kuti, his band, friends and family went through during an extraordinary raid backed by the government. According to him, the troops & police came to his residence and left them with Sorrows, Tears and Blood and he dubbed it their regular hallmarks.
Fela Kuti, is a dogged music activist. His criticism on the governments and its allies was why he was constantly attacked and sometimes jailed. Even at that, he never compromised, and that gained him his crown.
