Nigerian content creators beware!
The Federal Government (FG) has declared it an offense to release skits, music videos, or any film or video content without classification from the National Films and Videos Censors Board (NFVCB). This new regulation aims to protect viewers, particularly children, from inappropriate content.
The NFVCB, led by Executive Director Shaibu Husseini, recently issued a statement reminding creators of the importance of classification. Previously, classification only applied to movies, but now encompasses online content like skits and music videos. The classification system assigns age ratings and content advisories, empowering families to make informed viewing choices.
The Board is taking a firm stance against unclassified content. They are collaborating with security agencies to track down individuals and production companies who violate the regulations. Those found culpable could face legal repercussions.
This move has sparked discussions online. While some creators appreciate the effort to regulate content, others express concerns about potential censorship. The NFVCB assures creators that the classification process is designed to be efficient and will not stifle creativity.
