Nicki Minaj – Pink Friday Girls
Nicki uses a sample of Cyndi Lauper’s 1983 hit song “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” in her song “Pink Friday Girls.” Nicki has sung along to the popular 80s song before; in 2010, she collaborated with Katy Perry on a cover of the song for VH1 Divas Salute the Troops. Naturally, the reference to the rapper’s 2010 album Pink Friday is in the title.
Since the beginning of her career, Nicki has been greatly influenced by Cyndi Lauper. She recalls, in an interview with the New York Times, how watching Cyndi’s music videos made her fall in love with bright hairstyles. The two musicians share a mutual admiration for one another; in a Sirius XM interview, Cyndi mentioned how much she liked the rapper Nicki.
